Berry Basket - Couching Stitch - Orange Yellow

C$0.00Price
  • As part of the DesignTO Festival 2025, Laura created a 3D textile wall installation at Andreu World Toronto using repurposed berry baskets.

Berry baskets are commonly used to store produce as it is being harvested on farms and sold at farmers markets. The plastic ribs are designed to protect the produce and allow it to cool when coming in from the field. These ribs also provide a great plastic structural grid that can be used as an unconventional canvas for textile exploration.

Laura repurposed berry baskets to explore a variety of textile techniques and colour applications with nylon rope. This study in repetition and multiples allowed the process of experimentation and prototyping to be shared with the viewer, and to see the impacts that different techniques and colour combinations create.

The baskets were sourced from a local farm and the rope was primarily offcuts from previous rope projects. The pieces were displayed together on a wall but can be purchased to display individually or in groups.

Berry Baskets was featured in an article by Azure Magazine called 11 Places Our Editors Will Be During IDS Toronto and DesignTO.
